This country poses many temptations that lure a woman's soul from the path of the consumerly righteous. Like most sin, it is all very deliciously tempting. I can't say I've done a very good job at remaining strong (my father will certainly not think so), but I think I've done better than most of my compatriots.
All the colors and flair of India seem to express themselves in female adornments. And whether you have 10 rupees or 10,000, there's something for you. The call of glitter and texture crosses all cultural and class lines. I mean really? What's a girl to do?
1. Bangles
2. Saris and Kurtas and Dupattas (oh my!)
3. Sweets (the inside of a woman is just as important as the outside, you know)
4. Henna
5. Jewelry (a panoply of silver and gold for the ears, nose, forehead, neck, ankle, arm and toes)
6. Bollywood movies (besides just being fun, have you seen how these women can dance??)
7. Bangles (they really do merit a second mention)
Beautiful Bangles
Bengali sweets are famous throughout India - Calcutta boasts the most sweet shops in the entire country, over three hundred.
Buy them in a ritzy store, buy them in a closet size stall, buy them off the street - you can't walk two feet without tripping over a sari seller.
Mendi (Henna) is traditionally done for weddings, but has become a more trendy, daily accessory.
More beautiful bangles. And no, I do NOT have a bangle problem.
